The Institute of Professional Studies Teachers Association (IPSTA) Legon – Accra was founded on 18th December 1997 with a nucleus of twelve (12) Lecturers. At that time only professional programmes (ICSA, CIM, ACCA, CIMA, ICAG) were offered. The Undergraduate Degree Programmes were introduced in August 2005. The Ghana Institute of Journalism UTAG local branch began as an effort by lecturers to form an Association to champion the Welfare of the general faculty of the University. At a Meeting on the 7th November 2007 a three-member committee was tasked to discuss with the Acting Rector the formalization of regular teaching-staff meetings. From 2007, the teaching staff meetings grew into an informal Union aimed at presenting lecturers’ problems to the Institute’s Management. The 2007 salary crisis that hit the Institute was an opportunity to promote the ideals of the informal lecturers’ union. more>>
